The Crown School: P.S. 161 and The Crown School for Law and Journalism

Message from PTA President
Gladys Thom

One of many goals of the PTA is to foster a close relationship between home and school, that parents and teachers may cooperate intelligently in the education of our children.

The most basic statement that can be made about parent and family involvement in education is that when it happens, everyone benefits.

Many parents have shown interest in becoming involved in various areas. Special mention must be made of two parents who are physically challenged. These parents must be applauded, not only for attending meetings, but also for volunteering their services. "Everybody can be great because anybody can serve!" .-Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Please support our fund raising efforts. As a direct result of budget cuts our school has less money for supplies (paper, pencils etc.), we have less paraprofessionals and there is less professional development for our teachers. These are just a few of the ways in which the quality of teaching and learning are adversely affected.

In past years you may have seen great success, or you may have been disappointed with your results. In any case resolve to do more of the good and work on the challenging spots. It takes the best in each of us to bring out the best in all of us. Encourage your children to do their best and to keep on going. Reject the idea of good enough. Commit to excellence!
