September 4 Monday

Labor Day.

September 5 Tuesday

Professional Day - General staff orientation.            Classroom Teachers, Bilingual Teachers in School and Community Relations, Guidance Counselors, Attendance Teachers, Psychologists and Social Workers, Laboratory Specialists and Technicians, School Secretaries and Educational Paraprofessionals report.  Employees in titles not listed should consult the applicable collective bargaining agreement. Students will not be in attendance.

September 6 Wednesday

Superintendent Conference Day (Compact for Learning activities).  Students will not be in attendance.

September 7 Thursday

The citywide CTB tests in Reading and Mathematics will again be administered with time limits and scored in scale scores and proficiency levels. Special education students will receive appropriate accommodations. These tests will measure the same content and performance standards as last year's tests. The CTB Reading test will be given on April 19th and the CTB Mathematics test will be given on April 25, 2001.


· The State Grade 4 English Language Arts (ELA) assessment will be administered during the week of January 29th, the Grade 8 English Language Arts (ELA) assessment during the week of May 7th, and Grades 4 and 8 Mathematics assessments will be given during the week of May 14, 2001.


·
Scores on the Grades 5 and 7 Performance Assessment in Mathematics (PAM) and the Grade 6 Performance Assessment in Language Arts (PAL) will be combined with those for the CTB-M and CTB-R tests, respectively, to yield total Mathematics and English Language Arts scores. This represents a further alignment of city and state assessments.

· New state assessments for Grade 8 students will be administered in May and June in:

· Science
· Social Studies
· Technology Education.
