| As students develop academic skills, they are inevitably required, and
even want on their own, to access information on the Internet.
The Internet is a wonderfully vast galaxy in
cyberspace that offers instant access to
information on just about any subject. However, as in everything in life, there are pitfalls. In life we
have to be careful of shady businesses, and con artists. The Internet is
no different. The Board of Education has provided special software
on its server to help protect students from
visiting web sites with questionable content in school. There are software
programs parents can install on their computers at home to block out questionable
web site content.
It is important to
understand that nothing is 100% fool proof. Also remember, that students
come in contact with the Internet in the Library, and in the homes of friends.
With that in mind, we (educators, parents and the community) have to teach
our students to be wise Internet users. Let's work together to help our children
navigate
the Information Superhighway
safely!
